We went for the early bird set menu and were truly not disappointed. We opted for a main and a dessert as it was 2 courses. Kiev and chicken burger were fantastic. The sticky toffee sauce was to die for and the peanut butter cheesecake was lush. Visited on a Saturday night and it was quiet, which was such a shame as it was so good. Will be back soon

Visited today for the 1st time. We got 2 ginger ales, squid as a starter, and English breakfast and pork as our mains. Everything tasted very nice! We would have had dessert, but we were too full haha (we'll definitely come back to try desserts!). We sat by the window which was lovely, but the rest of the restaurant seemed a quite dark. Overall would recommend!

I took my mam along to Spent Grain for a birthday Sunday Lunch. The food was cooked to perfection, my mam had the beef that was huge generous slabs and I had the Belly Pork, again thick slabs each with a perfectly crispy layer of crackling. There was six different veggies, again cooked beautifully just al dente plus my favourite, both roasties and mash potatoes and huge yorkshires. It all came with an extra jug of gravy. I truly cannot fault it - the service was wonderful and the venue itself had that calm relaxing atmosphere. Easy parking and centrally located - really nothing bad to say - also extremely good value 19 for 2 courses is easy but 19 for 2 courses cooked and presented so beautifully is amazing great value. I don't live in Sunderland anymore but Spent Grain will definitely be on my agenda next time I visit. Thank you to all of the staff.

We went for the early evening deal and it was excellent. Really good quality food with friendly staff. Service was well timed, quick enough without being pushy. We had three courses each, all different and all six dishes were great. Good value for the quality of food. They offer a few beers a bit different to the main stream such as Czechia and Chinese beers but they are not the top quality for craft beer fans. Beavertown the reliable best alternative in this field. However, you go to a restaurant for the food and not the beer selection, and I couldn't fault it. Give it a go, it's very good. I'd recommend booking if wanting the early evening deal as it was quite busy for this time period on my visit.

Having followed on Insta for a while and hearing good things, we went for the first time on Wednesday night. A taste sensation is all I can say. Absolutely nailed it. Exceeded expectations. All three courses were epic. We had the scotch egg, mussels and shared chicken bites. Mains were the Surf n Turf (so good) and the venison pie. Desserts were the lemon drizzle cheesecake and the brownie. All delicious. Great coffee too. And the wife loved the cocktails. SG is a new favourite and we’ll definitely return. Worth a note, daytime & early evening, there’s a brilliant 3course menu option for 24, or 2 for 19 which is very good with great choices, though we weren’t on any budget so dove into the full main menu choices. But those menus are excellent value we thought. Get yourself booked in to go. Marvellous place.
